Mexican Ancient Clay Mask

This Clay mask is from Teotihuacana, Mexico.
It depicts “Dios Viejo del Fuego”, Which was one of the oldest deity worshipped in the Basin of Mexico, known as Huehueteotl by his Náhuatl name.
200 BC – 800 A.D.

When I saw this face I just wanted to paint him. I love the animals in here and his expressions and also I chose a vibrant gold color because I felt he was rich and glowing.
Here he is on fine art america.

Sunface Mandala with birds

Another mandala that’s also a sun face. He’s a colorful dude and look closely and you will see there are a few birds hanging around his face. It could be a she of course. This is a big painting starting out with layers of intensely splashed colors of yellow and red. There are lots of watercolor layers, one on top of another building up tonal values. I seem to never get tired of painting sun faces.
