Can you love your own work?

Colorful watercolor abstract

I don’t know why, but I gravitate to this watercolor. I love to see it super big but I think it looks good small also, like a little jewel. There is something about it that is mysterious. I give up on why I’m attracted to it. Maybe it’s whimsical and I think that says it all.

I am offering it in my Society 6 shop.

Love is in the Air

This watercolor with its soft and highly textured colors was a demo piece that I did in a class I’m teaching. The class is about painting watercolor in layers and stacking them according to their transparencies. The color palette is not my usual and so I’m happy that I am going in new directions. I am using my own hand drawn lettering as an off the cuff expression. We actually used cookie cutters and big flat brushes as well as thin riggers for variety. It was a fun project and everybody seemed to enjoy it. Here it is on textile.

Red headed girl in her secret garden

secret garden

This is a fun illustration I did on a very large sheet of watercolor paper. She sees a garden in her mind’s eye. It contains various birds, some common and some exotic. Find the green frogs climbing a red tree and a mamma bird with her baby chicks.
This was lots of fun to illustrate and more fun to color. Enjoy it on my products.

Red Deer Illustration

This illustration with extra color and a few symbolic waves of grain is an older drawing that I have completely redrawn and repainted with watercolor pencils.  I love the flourishes and references to plant and animal life.  I have digitally removed the background so the image can be printed on different color textiles.  There is another red deer in this series which will appear soon.

Coto pool and painting outside plein aire style

W-N-travel-paletteLovely sunny day. Quiet here and wanting to be outside, coto-pool-webmy friend and I set out to spend an hour with our mini palettes and brushes and small watercolor pads. This is the wading pool in my (coto) community. It is complete with great healthy palm trees and singing birds.
It is important and joyful to paint outside. It is a liberating experience. Tiny brush, tiny palette, tiny view of a huge scene. Plein aire paintings are super honest. Perhaps because you have to be quick before the moving sun changes your view.
