One time in my life I had a rooster who adopted me in CA. He would fly up and sleep in the trees at night. We had a lot of coyotes there. I never made a pen for him because aside from the tons of coyotes around, I had dogs who would love to catch him too. He would come in the mornings and I would leave seed out for him while the dogs were inside. We lived together this way for almost a year. He moved across the mountain a year later to somebody else’s place. I always had a lot of respect for him but felt I could never invite him in…I was sure he would be eaten. What a survivor!
He he is with text on my tee shirt shop.

I decided to take a little break from working on my picture books and do a watercolor with some very soft colors and textures. It’s a mandala but also a flower and also a very large image which is suitable for a big wall hanging or bed covering. I love the colors and had lots of fun drawing this because it is really not very symmetrical. I am fond of letting the pencil lay on the paper where it likes to and I don’t particularly care that it does not appear perfect. I am also enjoying the white feathers and little star flares peaking through. The coloring was done with watercolor pencils. Editing done in PSD2021
Here’s the image on a backpack.

Everybody has more than one side to their personality. I am no exception. I love to paint serious subjects and work with all the natural elements of fine art. But guess what? I also love to doodle and goof around. Here is a goofy gal that stole my heart. I have known a few gems like her in my life….hmmm. I wonder if I’m one of them.
I drew her strictly to use this new font called “Spilled Ink” by Michael Rafailyk . It can be found on My Fonts. What fun.
Here she is on a tee. Thanks for looking.

I love the palm trees for their majesty, their colors, their patterns. This watercolor has a lot of very intense color and the negative spaces are strong. This is one of my favorite color palettes.
